Tonight, I saw a fantastic piece of theatre in Chelsea, Michigan. I’m here on a trip to visit family, and I had the privilege to be taken to an amazing theatre in the round style theatre known as “The Purple Rose Theatre.”
The show I saw was “On Golden Pond” by Ernest Thompson, Directed by Michelle Mountain.
I’ll start with the lighting. They did a great job of working with a LOT of fixtures in a small space. There were only two settings, because that’s all the show called for. Lots of Bastard Amber and what looked like standard Lavender.
The set of this show was EXTREMELY intricate. It looked like they ripped a cabin right out of the woods. The set builder and painters did an incredible job. One of the most, if not the most detailed set I’ve ever seen.
The best part of this piece though, were the lead characters. John Peakes played a perfect Norman and Jan Radcliffe played an amazing Ethel.
I give this show a 9.3 out of 10. See it if you can. Closes on September 1st.
