This past weekend, I had the opportunity to visit New York City and attend the Stage Lighting Super Saturday Seminar at LaGuardia High School for the Arts. There, many vendors and speakers presented and taught mini-lessons on the principles of lighting design, as well as the latest products. Pictured to the left is one of the new moving lights Clay Paky had to show off. Some of the more interesting sessions were lead by Professional Lighting Designer Ken Billington, Professional Lighting Designer Richard Pilbrow, and Founder of City Theatrical Gary Falis, and Professor Scott C. Parker. What an incredible event to attend. Lots of networking opportunities as well as new toys to ooh and aww at from manufacturers including Rosco, Phillips Strand, Apollo, ETC, and more.
For you young lighting designers out there, this would be a great event to attend. There were big names in the audience. Although this isn’t something as big as the USITT Expo, it is a really intimate, hands on event that I learned a lot from.
